Ayurveda is a comprehensive system of health care which originated in India over 5000 years ago. As the ‘science of life’, Ayurveda is concerned with the maintenance of health, enhancing the quality of life, the prevention of ill health as well as the treatment of patho-physiological states.

This short course will introduce the learner to the basic concepts and philosophical principles underpinning the Ayurvedic tradition of holistic health care and will provide a broad overview of the distinctive approach to health promotion and therapeutic modalities. The student will emerge from this course with an understanding of the complex interaction between body, mind and soul in the maintenance of health and the prevention of disease. There will also be opportunities to explore the importance of diet and lifestyle appropriate to one’s unique constitution and the medicinal benefits of commonly available fruits, vegetables, spices and other herbal substances.

The course commences in October 2020

One lecture a week of 3 hours duration and supported distance learning.
