Programme Outline

The B.Sc (Hons) Vegetarian Living Degree is a modular programme of study delivered over two years/six terms. It demonstrates three academic levels (Levels IV, V, VI of a UK Higher Education degree), and comprises of the equivalent of 18 modules. On successfully completing the prescribed assessments, the student will be awarded 120 credits at each academic level. Students must successfully pass all modules at each level of study in order to progress to the next higher level.

Year 1 (Terms 1, 2, 3)

Level IV modules

  1. History of vegetarian living (20 credits)
  2. Philosophical and spiritual aspects of vegetarianism (20 credits)
  3. Cross-cultural perspectives on food and diet (20 credits)
  4. Holistic Nutrition (20 credits)
  5. Vegetarian Cooking (Indian) (20 credits)
  6. Vegetarian Cooking (Western and Mediterranean) (20 credits)

Level V modules

  1. Health Benefits of a Vegetarian Diet (20 credits)
  2. Therapeutic Vegetarian Foods (20 credits)
  3. Medicinal Plants (20 credits)

Year 2 (Terms 4, 5, 6)

Level V modules

  1. Ethical aspects of animal protection (20 credits)
  2. Research Methodology (20 credits)
  3. Yoga practice and vegetarian living (20 credits)

Level VI modules

  1. Organic Farming: philosophy and principles (20 credits)
  2. Geo-politics of Hunger (20 credits)
  3. Human ecology and vegetarian living (20 credits)
  4. Business Opportunities in Vegetarian Living (20 credits)
  5. &  18. Dissertation (40 credits)
